Aerospace

In the aerospace industry, product reliability is a critical factor. Since many aircraft applications utilize pressure-sensitive adhesives, these products must meet stringent requirements in terms of quality and performance. Continuous operation in harsh environments and resistance to extreme temperatures are just a few of the various criteria that adhesive products must meet to gain entry into this demanding industry.

In the airplane cabin, many applications use silicone foam, which requires a silicone adhesive for lamination. Dielectric Polymers’ TRANS-SILâ silicone transfer adhesives, available in two and five mil adhesive thickness, bond well to silicone foam for sound dampening applications. These adhesives also provide high adhesion in bonding dielectric foam for antenna attachment. With intermittent temperature operation up to 700° F and excellent chemical resistance, our unsupported silicone transfer adhesives lend high performance in the installation of insulating blankets as well as in adhering cockpit-control interfaces in military aircraft.

Other aerospace applications benefit from the temperature resistance of silicone adhesive in the form of self-wound tape. For wire harness winding, tapes constructed with a flame resistant polyimide backing such as NT-590 and NT-590-2 offer optimum protection.

Whether the application involves temperature insulation, vibration dampening or lamination of flame retardant materials, pressure-sensitive adhesives must provide high adhesion and shear strength to hold up under extreme conditions. For aerospace applications, Dielectric Polymers combines innovation and experience to offer well engineered adhesive products to meet the exacting specifications of the industry.

Silicone Transfer Adhesives

TRANS-SILâ NT-1001, 1005: Two and five mil silicone adhesives protected by two clear polyester film liners offer resistance to extreme temperatures of -300° F to 500° F (-185° C to 260° C). Bonds well to silicone foam, metals, most plastics and low surface energy substrates.

Polyimide Film Tapes

NT-590, 590-2: silicone adhesive on a one and two mil polyimide film backing offers high performance in electrical and thermal insulation with continuous temperature resistance of -100° F to 500° F (-73° C to 260° C) and intermittent service to 600° F (315° C).

Protective Films

NT-4500, 5000 Series: Clear, controlled low tack acrylic adhesive is permanently bonded to transparent polyester film for clean removal even after exposure to extreme temperatures. Used for aerospace production during machining, handling, shipping and storage.
